Course Description

Required course for business and business-related majors. Directly transfers to SDSU, etc.

(As of Fall 2015, requires prerequisite English 101.)

Ours is a practical, no "busy work" class in which your application of learned theories is far more important for workplace and personal success. There is no final exam; no mid-term. Instead, students perform interesting internet drills, watch short videos of workplace application examples, and take multiple-choice chapter quizzes.

Students have praised this class for being "highly organized," "very specific in what is expected," "you know from the beginning what is due and when," "easy-to-understand website," "professor easily available by email,” etc.

Dr. Simpson (fondly known as "Doc") wrote the very first online Business class in our district. She has taught Business Communications 119 online consistently for 20+ years.

She understands the needs of online students, since she worked full-time while attending college evenings and weekends for more than 18 years.

Course Objectives

Students will gain practical business knowledge in nonverbal communications, ethics, protocol, international communications, teamwork, resume writing, interviewing techniques, etc.

You will write a resume (graded), analytical report (pass/fail), and business letters (graded).

NOTE: It continues to surprise students that they are immediately able to apply what is being learned to their lives and workplace.
